The Ramp March 2026 AI index just dropped. Ramp tracks real corporate credit card spending across more than 50,000 businesses, not surveys, not benchmarks, actual dollars going out the door. And the numbers are pretty striking. Give me the headline. Among companies buying AI for the first time, first-time buyers, Anthropic is now winning roughly 70% of head-to-head matchups against OpenAI.

It's a route. And here's what makes it even more interesting. A year ago, only one in 25 businesses on the ramp platform was paying for Anthropic at all. Today it's nearly one in four.

So we went from Claude being kind of a niche choice to being the default pick for new buyers in 12 months.

Exactly. And OpenAI just had its largest single-month adoption rate decline, down one and a half percent. Still the overall market leader by total users, but the trend line is moving against them.

And trust is the word. The researchers at Ramp dug into why Claude is winning, and it comes down to identity. Anthropic kept a safety-focused business-aligned stance while OpenAI was leaning hard into massive government contracts and chasing AGI headlines.

Which creates a values mismatch for a lot of business owners. If you're running a small business, you don't care about AGI. You care about does this tool do what I need it to do reliably without doing something weird?

And Claude has been consistently better at that in my experience. Less hallucination on business tasks, better at following nuanced instructions, doesn't go off script.

The Business Insider piece that came out alongside this data had a startup founder who canceled their ChatGPT business plan and switched to Claude specifically because of quote, better nuance understanding and reduced coding errors. That's not a vibe, that's a workflow decision.
